Mo Flava opens heart & wallet

Popular radio host and DJ, Mo Flava is giving determined youth an opportunity to gain a tertiary education with his bursary drive in June and July 2014.  With four bursaries worth more than R350 000 to give away to well deserving applicants, the lucky winners will have the opportunity to study media, radio, broadcasting or graphic design at Boston Media House, one of South Africa’s leading tertiary institutions.

“This is great news, and we are thrilled that Mo once again selected Boston for this empowering bursary drive, so we can together set sight on creating more success stories.  Celebrities and public figures are aware that they have a social responsibility and what better way to honour this than through education,” says Carike Verbooy, Registrar, Boston Media House.

“The gift of education is after all the gift that keeps on giving and for me, a Boston Media House graduate, the inspiration behind this bursary drive is all about helping others achieve their dreams,” says Mo.

“The bursary giveaway earlier this year was an enormous success and the amount of matriculants who auditioned was remarkable.  It showed me that there are so many young people eager to study and better themselves – this  I support and encourage fully,” adds Mo.

“It is even more pleasing for me to know that the larger percentage of applicants will come from disadvantaged backgrounds and are unable to study due to financial constraints.  It is my wish to again help four such young people take the next step in their education,” says Mo.

To those students who have the passion, talent and determination to be part of the exciting world of media, radio, broadcasting or design, we urge them to come to the auditions. The application process is as follows:

  • Auditions:
    • 28 June and 12 July 2014 from 10am until 2pm at Boston Media House, Benmore Campus (137 11th street, Parkmore, opposite the Benmore Gardens Shopping Centre)
    • Applicants must bring their ID book and matric results.
    • The four bursaries are only open to 2012 and 2013 matriculants.
    • Applicants who had already applied at Boston Media House, but require financial assistance are also welcome to audition and apply.
    • This bursary drive will include 2 bursaries per campus and will be for 2 courses in Media Studies and two Graphic Design courses.

Mo knows how important a tertiary education is.  Having matriculated at Northcliff High School in 2002, he completed a Media Studies diploma at Boston Media House and majored in Media and Journalism.

After submitting his demo to YFM, he aced it and became an intern for three months on the graveyard shift.  Subsequently he became the popular YFM breakfast jock we know him as.  Mo is also a club DJ specialising in house music.

Prospective students aspiring towards a career in media couldn’t ask for a better role model, and Mo’s bursary drive could very well be the first step for four lucky applicants to write their own success story.
